本片依據史考特費茲傑羅 Francis Scott Key Fitzgerald 的同名小說「Tender is the Night」改編 , 電影譯名【夏夜春潮】 , 但小說的書名譯為「夜未央」. 這是史考特費茲傑羅在1934年完成的小說 , 他在1925年也有部知名小說「大亨小傳 The Great Gatsby」被數度拍出電影 .
